Block of 20 or intensive — both are 20 hours, so what's the difference?

The block of 20 is £31 an hour because you take those hours whenever suits you over the following months. The intensive is £35 an hour — our normal rate, not a markup — because Fahim clears two weeks of his diary for you, and blocks that he cannot sell to anyone else. You're not paying extra per hour; you're giving up the bulk discount in exchange for speed, a mock test and help getting a practical booked.

Why our intensive is two weeks

Everyone else's intensive is one week. That's four hours a day behind the wheel.

You stop taking it in long before the fourth hour, and you've paid for every one of them.

When Baddeley and Longman trained Post Office staff to type, the group given shorter sessions spread over more days ended up faster and more accurate than the group given the same hours in longer blocks — even though the crammed group finished sooner. (Ergonomics, 1978, 21(8), 627–635. Same pattern for theory revision: Cepeda et al., Psychological Bulletin, 2006, 132(3), 354–380.)

Neither study is about driving — typing isn't a car. But "same hours, more days, better retention" is one of the most replicated findings in learning research, and it has never pointed the other way.

Two weeks of held diary is harder for us to schedule, and we'd fill those slots faster selling you the crammed version. You're buying a pass, not a fortnight.

What we optimise for

We'd rather you passed than bought more hours.

Easy thing to say — every school says it. Here is what it actually costs us:

  • The intensive is two weeks, not one. We would fill those slots faster the other way.
  • Unused block hours come back to you, on 7 days' notice.
  • We publish the DVSA pass rate for every centre we teach at — including the two that sit below the national average.
  • We do not teach automatic yet, so we say so instead of taking the booking.
  • After your first two hours you get an honest number of lessons — including when that is fewer than you expected.

Pricing FAQs

Do you teach automatic? +
Not yet. Fahim teaches manual only, in a dual-controlled Renault Clio. We would rather say so now than take a booking we cannot honour. We are recruiting an automatic instructor, so WhatsApp us and we will tell you the moment that changes.
Why is the first lesson two hours? +
One hour mostly goes on working out where you are up to. Two gives Fahim time to assess you properly and give you an honest estimate of how many lessons you actually need. It is £50 instead of £70, and there is no commitment afterwards.
The block of 20 and the intensive are both 20 hours. Why do they cost different amounts? +
The block of 20 works out at £31 an hour because you take those hours whenever suits you. The intensive is £35 an hour, which is our standard rate rather than a markup, because Fahim clears two weeks of his diary for you and cannot sell those slots to anyone else. You are giving up the bulk discount in exchange for speed, a mock test and help booking your practical.
What do the blocks actually save me? +
£20 on the block of 10 (£330 against £350 at the pay-as-you-go rate) and £80 on the block of 20. Block-bookers also get first pick of slots.
Can I get a refund if I do not use all my block hours? +
Yes. Unused hours from either block are refundable, provided you give us reasonable notice — we ask for 7 days.
Do you offer Pass Plus or motorway lessons? +
WhatsApp us if you want either. We tailor a one-off session rather than running a fixed package. Most learners benefit from motorway prep within six months of passing.
Do you do referrals? +
Yes. Send someone our way and you both get an hour free once they have had their first paid lesson. No cap and no small print.
How many lessons will I actually need? +
Nobody can tell you that honestly before they have driven with you, which is why the first lesson is two hours. Fahim will give you a realistic number after it, and tell you if he thinks you need fewer than you expected.
